June 13, 2020
So many mixed emotions these days! It's a beautiful, joyful day, but we are all still reeling from national events of these past three weeks. We are headed into a season of summer relaxation, but we are all still on edge from the health concerns of these past three months. In all of our mixed emotions, God is caring and steady; let's continue to look to and lean on Him. "He changes and controls times, seasons and events. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. I thank and praise you, God!" - (Daniel 2). Please continue to pray for our Elders and Senior Staff as we together guide next steps for our church family.
We are planning to re-open our in-person worship services on Sat/Sun Aug 1/2. Starting that weekend, we expect people of all ages will be able to join us for our worship services at all of our locations. We intend to limit attendance in our worship centers to about 25% of capacity, invite mask wearing and social distancing, and to continue our comprehensive cleaning protocols. We plan to restart our CompassKids ministries on Sat/Sun Sept 12/13. In the meantime - in June and July - we will continue to use our buildings for various ministries; for groups of up to 50 people each, age 11 and older. Additionally, we are holding other outdoor events for all ages.
With so much back and forth on a national, state and regional level about how severe the pandemic is, what an appropriate community response is, and what our legal rights as a church are, it has been a complex season for decision-making; to say the least! In our efforts to balance civil liberties with public health with Christian witness, we have been in direct senior leadership conversation with over 25 large, likeminded churches in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. Of these, we have compared notes or coordinated with over a dozen large churches in Chicagoland; most of whom have a re-opening schedule similar to ours.
We are also planning on officially starting a new Compass Online ministry; designed to be an ongoing internet-based expression of our church that runs simultaneous to the in-person ministry at our four western suburb locations. For this next season - and for years to come - this online ministry will have an array of faith-based Compass content and community for people to deeply engage with. When we restart in-person worship services on Aug 1/2, know that we are equally happy for you to connect with our church through our continuing Live Hosted and On Demand online worship services, if you prefer that.
We are here for you and our community, so please let us know if there is anything we can do to come along side of you.
The Compass Church Leadership
Here is our latest update for The Compass Church. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any campus for any specific information.
We wanted to give you a bit of encouragement since we have been social distancing for a while now. Please enjoy listening to our cell phone choir.
We are praying for you! We know this is a season of new routines for all of us, and yet we know God is our Rock and we can rely on Him during these uncertain times.
Thank you for being "the Church" outside of the church walls during this time! We look forward to many shared faith experiences in the days ahead!
We are praying for you! We know this has turned into a season of new routines for all of us, and yet we know God is our Rock and we can rely on Him during these uncertain times.
In these crazy times we are so glad that Jesus brings a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). We are praying that everyone in The Compass Church would sense the Lord’s presence, love and peace in the coming days.
Yesterday’s email was written prior to our Governor’s announcement. As we have processed his recommendations, we have decided upon a significantly altered plan. We will not be holding our worship services at our four campuses this weekend and going forward until we determine gathering is safe and appropriate. Instead, we would like to invite everyone to worship with us in your homes via live.thecompass.net.
You will be able to watch this complete worship service online starting at 5p on Saturday night. It will be available, live and thereafter for a week, for you to watch with your family, friends or small group. We will have sermon-based Bible study questions available through our website for processing or discussion.
Starting this weekend, we will also be switching to a new teaching series called Weathering The Storm. We are changing to this new sermon content because we really want to minister to you and yours during this unprecedented season of uncertainty! Please consider forwarding the link to our service to friends and family that may need to hear these timely messages.
Additionally, CompassKids materials for families will be made available on our website HERE. We want to come alongside families as you process all this together.
We will also be canceling various gatherings this week at our campuses including CompassKids, CompassStudents and weekend Adult Ministries. We will keep our website updated with the latest on the status of ministry events.
The Lord promises that He is committed to bringing good out of our most difficult trials (Romans 8:28). Join us in praying that the present hardship facing our world will be used by God to reach many people with the transforming message of Jesus Christ here, near and far.
Standing with Him,
The Compass Church Leadership
Blessings to you all during these strange days with the Coronavirus (Covid-19). May the Lord grant us wisdom as a church family during these trying times. We're reminded of this faith-growth advice from the Apostle James: "You know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you." (James 1:3-5) May the Lord lead us all as a church family together!
With the increasing awareness and public concerns regarding the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to assure you that we are carefully monitoring this situation and taking a proactive approach to ensure our campuses are clean, safe and that your well-being matters to us.
At all four of our Compass Church locations, we are intentional about providing clean and safe experiences. We have already enhanced our cleaning procedures. This includes comprehensive cleanings of all restrooms and high touch surfaces throughout the buildings including seats, doorknobs, faucets, handrails, toys, etc.
We will be performing ongoing cleaning during and between weekend worship services. Our CompassKids classrooms and toys are disinfected after each service time by our staff and volunteers at every campus. We also provide hand sanitizers and facial tissues in visible locations throughout our various buildings.
We are taking additional steps this coming weekend by not passing our offering containers (we will have baskets for offering at the back of the room or you can participate in online giving HERE). We are also minimizing additional points of physical contact and we will be modifying the use of touchscreens for check-in, in order to also reduce these touch points.
Additionally, we have an online Live Steam option from our Hobson Campus worship service location. Accessible through our website homepage, you can join our worship services live (Saturday 5p, Sunday 9:15 and 11:15a) or can watch them in-full for an entire week following from this same site. If you or a family member are ill, please use this meaningful Live Stream HERE.
We are cancelling this Sunday night's Hymn Sing event at our Wheaton Campus. We have found that this particular event draws an audience from a broader area and is often attended by senior adults, whom the government has given special warnings to.
We are monitoring government health guidelines as they relate to all of our gatherings and will continue to discern next steps for our church family as the weeks progress. Jeff Griffin, our Senior Pastor, will be preaching this weekend as usual, and we will be there to serve you!
