Week 6: Is There Hope?

Jeff Griffin

Genesis 3:7-20

In the final week of the series, we studied the hope of the gospel found in Genesis 3. In the midst of the painful description of the consequences of the original sin, we find words that speak of the grace to be found in Jesus.

Kicking it off:

What do you like about autumn?

Discussion:

1. Reread Genesis 3:8 (NLT): “The man and his wife heard the Lord walking about in the garden, so they hid from the Lord.”

How does our sin interfere with our efforts to grow closer with God?

2. The Curse (Genesis 3:14-19) describes examples of ways that sin brought consequences to humanity. Some of the consequences that were noted are:

Health Problems, Relational Problems, Work Problems, Natural Disasters

Why is it important to know that spiritual rebellion is the ultimate cause of all hardships?

3. Reread Genesis 3:23 (NLT): "The Lord banished them from the Garden of Eden."

Why did God do this?

4. Reread the curse declared to the serpent found in Genesis 3:15 (NLT): “I will cause hostility between your offspring and her offspring.”

In what ways is there hostility between Christians and Satan?

5. Reread Genesis 3:15 (NLT): “You will strike his heel.”

The male offspring of Eve, being referenced here, is Jesus Christ. In what ways has Satan attacked Jesus?

6. Reread Genesis 3:15 (NLT): “He will crush your head.”

This part of the curse on Satan is a reference to what Jesus will do to him. How can this truth impact our lives today?

7. Reread Genesis 3:21 (NLT): “The Lord made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.”

What is the spiritual meaning found in this verse? How does this animal skin clothing compare to the sewn fig leaves that Adam and Eve made for themselves?

Wrapping It Up:

“At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, and every tongue will declare that Jesus is Lord!” (Philippians 2:10-11) If this is how things end, spend some time praying along these lines.
