Week 3: Warring Angels
Jeff Griffin
2 Corinthians 11:3
Satan is trying to ruin our lives spiritually. The good news is that God has equipped us through Jesus and the Holy Spirit, along with a whole army of angels to defeat him. This week we look at what happens when angels are raging war with temptation against our minds
Jeff talked about Daniel from the Bible as an older man. What is something important a grandparent or older mentor taught you?
1. Jeff described how angels wage war with words. What are some lies and phrases Satan might use to tempt or discourage us? What are some words angels can use to encourage and equip people?
2. Read 2 Corinthians 11:3 again. What is the connection to Eve and the Garden of Eden and spiritual warfare with angels? (See also Genesis 3:1-7.)
“But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”
3. Take a look at some of the lies from Satan regarding how we should think of God. Which one tends to tempt or impact you the most? What others come to mind?
4. When you look at this list of a few sources of truth to counteract Satan’s lies, which of these have you experienced before? Which one do you most want to experience again soon?
5. Why do you think it’s so important to offset the enemy’s lies with the truth of God’s Word? What can happen to people when they don’t intentionally work to negate Satan’s lies?
6. How does the promise that there is hope and grace in the Kingdom of God (after we die) offer you strength, peace, and perspective today, particularly in light of the angel’s words in Daniel 10:19a?
“Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,” he said. “Peace! Be strong now; be strong.” When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.”
Read the excerpt from Philippians 4:8, below. As a group, pray that you would each continue to press on, fight the good fight, and be faithful — even when you’re in a spiritual battle.
“Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others.” (TLB)
