CAP

Compass has partnered with Christians Against Poverty (CAP), an international ministry, to walk alongside people that need direction and support to improve their future financial health and security. CAP services are free and include a financial health assessment, money management training and financial counseling.

Financial Health Check-Up

In a brief confidential needs assessment, a trained advocate will help you identify areas of financial concern as well as growth opportunities. The Financial Health Check-Up is designed for people who are having difficulty meeting their monthly financial obligations. Participants will receive a personalized restorative plan detailing specific action steps, including recommendations for support services available in the community that can assist with financial recovery. Our goal is to assist people in acquiring financial literacy skills, become debt free, and experience God's love in action. To register for a 20-minute Financial Health Check-Up, click HERE. CAP Money Course

CAP Money Course

The CAP Money Course is a free 3-session money management course that teaches people how to improve their budgeting skills and introduces a simple, cash-based, money management system. The CAP Money Course is simple, flexible, and effective. Each of the 3 sessions will be led by a CAP Money Coach and includes:

  • Building a budget: You will take a good look at where your finances are right now and use this information to build your own balanced, sustainable budget. Our free, online tool makes the process simple and gives you clarity around your budget immediately.
  • Implementing the CAP Money system: This system will simplify your spending and help make your budget work day-to-day. It operates using three accounts for your money: a regular payments account, a cash account, and a savings account.
  • Learning to live on cash: By putting away the credit cards and spending only the cash you have budgeted for week-to-week, you will see how you really can get your finances under control.

This class includes free unlimited access to video lessons and the CAP Money budgeting app. See Community Impact Events to register for the class. Email capmoneycourse@thecompass.net for more info.

CAP Debt Center

There are a significant number of people in our surrounding communities who are experiencing financial struggles or living in crisis debt. In partnership with Christians Against Poverty, our Naperville Campus has established a Debt Center, to help people overcome financial difficulties and return to a path of financial health. We walk alongside the client to understand their circumstances and present solid financial solutions, while offering hope. Email debtcenter@thecompass.net for more info.

SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
We are looking for volunteers to share God's love with people struggling with financial distress. You do not need any financial background; just a desire to help people. CAP will provide all materials and training. This is an outreach opportunity to support struggling community members, pray for them and to share the gospel. We are looking for team members in the following areas:

  • Financial Health Checkup Team: Conduct a 20-minute questionnaire covering up to four areas of potential need: Relationships, Health & Wellbeing, Financial Health, and Legal.
  • CAP Money Coach: Facilitate a simple life transforming financial literacy and budgeting course for church and community members. You will help run the course 2-3 times per year with a 3-week (session) commitment each time. You will present video course modules with another coach and provide individualized guidance.
  • CAP Debt Coach: You would support clients on their journey to becoming debt free through home visits and ongoing support. Coaching typically involves three meetings where we explain the CAP process,  gather financial data and finally present recommendation prepared by CAP's Certified Credit Counselor. During these visits we share Gods love, pray with clients, and offer hope.
  • Visit Team (Befriender): Accompany the Debt Coach to the client’s home to help assess what support a client needs. Assist in identifying ways that The Compass Church can come alongside the client to provide care, encouragement, prayers, and share the gospel.
  • Blessing Team: Show clients the love of God in action. Provide tangible care for their physical needs and encouragement for their spiritual well-being. The team may invite clients to attend Compass events, mail holiday cards or find other ways to welcome them into the community.
  • Community Links Team: Help publicize the CAP ministry in the community through various marketing efforts. Engage community service organizations to recommend CAP services.
