Week 4: Our Joy Is Possible

Dave Griffin

Luke 2:8-14

It’s easy to overlook the true meaning of Christmas with the hustle and bustle of seasonal festivities. The angels can help us by offering us their unique perspective. By seeing Christ's birth through their eyes, we will discover deeper joy this Christmas season.

Kicking It Off:

What’s the most unusual purchase you’ve ever made online? How did everything turn out?

Discussion:

1.    When you think about ways that people try to impress God, what comes to mind? Why do these efforts fall flat sometimes?

2.    What was happening with the shepherds, around the night Jesus was born? What do you think the shepherds were thinking when the angels showed up, as seen in Luke 2? How would you respond if an angel showed up to your workplace?

3.    What is the good news, based on Luke 2:10? What was Jesus’ purpose, His anointing? What’s the significance of God reaching the whole world to know Jesus?

“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’”

4.    What would you say is the purpose of pursuing God daily? How does a heart knowledge and knowing who Jesus is actually help God speak to us? How can solitude with God help accomplish that, too?

5.    Why do you think God enjoys His people — and takes delight in them? What’s the difference between God loving us as His children, versus God actually liking us?

6.    What would life look like for you if you chose to give God the gift of your time? How might that impact your work, or school, neighborhood, or church?

Wrapping Up

Dave shared that there’s an invitation to the entire world to know Jesus and for everyone to get to know Jesus. Pray that each member of your group would share their faith with confidence, so that more might know Him.
